My halt at Zurich was just for an hour. Zurich, the largest city in Switzerland and located at the north-western tip of Lake Zurich, is a German-speaking city. I couldn’t spend much time since it was raining quite heavily. Yet, I managed to capture some beautiful sights. Here they are.

Located in north-central Switzerland in the German-speaking county, Lucerne, capital and city, is a charmingly beautiful haven for tourists with historic sites, landmark buildings and a getaway to some of the best hill resorts – Mt. Titlis, Mt. Pilatus, Rigi on the Swiss Alps and Stanserhorn. The Lucerne Railway Station has a beautiful cupola entrance that leads to Lake Lucerne and an underground tunnel that connects to the Culture and Convention Centre, which also houses the Kunstmuseum Luzern (Museum of Art, Luzern).

Sited on Lake Lucerne and imbedded within the impressive panorama of mountains, Lucerne offers a fascinating view of the medieval city with the iconic Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke) on River Reuss, the city walls with nine watchtowers and its chapels and facades. The historic wooden Chapel Bridge was built in 1333 and restored in 1993, has a number of attractions including many 17th century paintings and an octagonal water tower.

Awesome and breathtakingly beautiful, Mt. Titlis is a heaven abode earth. Truly mesmerising is its beauty that one marvels at God’s creation and feels bestowed.

Located at 3,238 meters above sea level in the Urner Alps of Switzerland, Mt. Titlis forms borders between the cantons of Obswalden and Berne in Switzerland, overlooking Engelberg. Connected through Rail Europe from Lucerne, Zurich, Basel and Berne, Mt. Titlis can be reached via the famous rotating cable car, Titlis Rotair.

Space Station of Moon Lookalike
This particular image above fascinates me as it gives that feel, as if I were on an imaginary planet, maybe the Moon and this was a colony with Space Stations; a truly futuristic feel.
Communications & Weather Tower atop Mt. Titlis
This so-called Space Station is actually a Communications & Weather tower atop Mt. Titlis which offers a panoramic view of its snowy surroundings. The mountain top offers a stunning view of the glaciers from the “Stotzig Egg – viewpoint”. Not to miss among the various attractions are the Glacier Cave, the photo studio and world’s highest watch showroom at the mountain peak.

One of the largest ski and snowboard destinations in Switzerland and a place for snow activities such as snow tubing, sledge at Titlis Glacier Park, this place is a summer and winter abode for tourists from worldover. The Titlis IceFlyer Chairlift is one of the major attractions, dropping tourists back and forth to the Titlis Glacier Park.

After an adventurous snow ride, I headed back to Engelberg to catch my next train to Lucerne. Although, the surprising aspect of this trip was the poster of Shah Rukh Khan (Indian actor) and Kajol (Indian actress) from Dilwale Dulhaniya Lejayenge movie put right at the entrance of Mt. Tiltis and even more amusing was to watch all the Indians posing happily right next to it (P.S. not me).

Mt. Titlis, the journey started with a train ride from Lucerne to Engelberg. What a stunning view, Switzerland is truly heaven on earth.

Engelberg, in the canton of Obwalden in Switzerland, is a beautiful village overlooking Mt. Titlis with breathtaking views, stunning landscape and mountain scenery. An ideal dream destination for spa-lovers, skiers and honeymooners from India. It is also an attractive filmshoot location for popular Indian movie song-dance sequences wherein the actress dances on the snowy terrains in skimpy chiffon or georgette sarees (poor thing must be freezing in the cold) and the actor (main hero), all geared up in winter-wear, is all set to romance her. Nevertheless, Switzerland has thus, become a dream destination for Indian tourists which has increased the tourism revenue for Swiss government, I am sure!!

Maison Cailler Chocolate Factory, Broc
Broc, located in the district of Gruyère in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland is just an hour away from the cheese factory in Gruyère. The slow train ride takes one along the beautiful countryside with much awaited anticipation to see the one and only place, Maison Cailler Chocolate Factory. Oh!! I just crept into my fantasy world the moment I saw the chocolate factory; having imagined myself to be that innocent child who just won the ‘gold coupon’ to enter Willy Wonker’s Chocolate Factory. The thought of entering that dream destination and feasting on unlimited chocolates was mesmerising, indeed.

The Maison Cailler had an interactive tour guide, one that starts with a gallery showcasing Cailler’s famous packaging graphics from 1898 till present day. This was proceeded by a Willy Wonker style 4-D presentation ending on a very delicious note – a feast on the freshly baked Cailler chocolates. Yummmmm!!!
