GQ has created its ultimate style guide for MEN in association with MR.PORTER which I can say is men’s No.1 online shopping destination. Having the potential of educating its consumers through style advice on How To Wear, What To Wear etc, GQ has set itself on the path of converting its reader base into conscious shoppers, thus embanking trust on MR PORTER.

John Lennon – My Style Icon

10 Dec

On 8th Dec, 2010, it was the 30th death anniversary of the eternal music legend John Lennon. I grew up listening to the songs of Beatles and among all of them, I admired John Lennon the most – firstly for his music and most importantly for his style. Newspapers have discussed in length about Lennon’s contribution to music, the Beatles, Yoko Ono, his Zen-like tranquillity, and his anti-war activities in promoting peace around the world. The so-called smart Beatles’ influence on music and fashion is remarkable.

Rolling Stones discusses the life history of John Lennon with his biographies, interviews, stories, photographs and videos along with an online archive that has never been published before. The Telegraph and GQ have posted numerous photographs of the iconic legend and his rebel style.

The following is a compilation of  photographic images of John Lennon and his iconic style right from the Preppy, Schoolboy look to the MOD look, Rock ‘n’ Roll look moving onto the Hippie Look of the 70’s with a touch of glam.

Lennon also personifies the ‘Peace Look’ and adorns the Revolutionary look as well. He also continuously changed his appearance from a clean-shaven look to a handlebar moustace to a bearded look (this having resulted after his union with Yoko Ono). From a ruffled hair to long hair to a bald look that totally reminds me of Jason Statham or to aptly pinpoint Brad Pitt with his bald head and gold rimmed glasses. Guess, Lennon has inspired generations to come.

This is a video of 1968, Revolution Mod Fashion Show that portrays the 60’s mod look and also present at the show are John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

During the Beatles first tour of the United States in 1964, John Lennon wore a black fisherman’s cap which quickly became popularly known as a “John Lennon Hat”.

His changing hairstyles are complemented with his changing glasses. He often wore glasses due to his poor eyesight. From thick rimmed ‘National Health Glasses’ that he hated wearing to his softened ‘Buddy Holly’ styled frame glasses, his constant experimentation with glasses continued.

As a tribute to John Lennon fans, Luxury Culture.com has launched an ultra limited edition of cashmere sweaters emblazoned with 1971 self-portrait of John Lennon (which now hangs in New York’s Museum of Modern Art) or with the original hand-written lyrics to his song ‘Imagine‘.

John Lennon will always be remembered for his music, songwriting, his fight for peace and his ever-changing, inspiring personal style. He is my STYLE ICON.

Brighton Bazaar!!

30 Jul

Bazaars… the best place to notice the vibrancy in the colours and in people’s lives.  Brighton’s Bazaar (marketplace) was brimming with travellers, gypsies, merry men (except Robinhood) and musicians. The Italian food filled the air with delicious aroma… pasta, spaghetti and meatballs (not my favourite though) and wine was flowing everywhere.

Tarot readers, tattoo artists, caricature artists, country folk music (Irish mate!!) , jazz musicians and the saxophone… just too good. This is the place I love would to be, the place where culture begins… and where fashion meets culture!!!

These are reminiscent of the Flapper’s age, the 20’s, the Jazz and fashion!! Wow!! Although, this was just a random thought which in no way links to what I saw, it’s just the music, I guess which takes you back in time. Today, it was a multi-cultural festive of music, arts and food. People are busy trying to grasp every moment. The marketplace is buzzing with creative artists and travellers. The tattoo artists caught in action, with block prints of Indian tattoo design also known as ‘Mehendi’!!

Love the colourful printed  floral dresses complemented with the blue denim jacket. The picturesque is so colourful and vibrant – Indian textiles, peacock coloured earrings, wooden blocks of design used for block print. The whole scene reminds of me of Gypsyland (the inspirational land for future designers)!!

Colours & Coast: Brighton

29 Jul

Well!! My trip to Brighton was quite exciting!! It’s been almost a year since I saw the BEACH, after having lived right next to it back home!! Yet the interesting part of the trip was the ‘Coastal graphics’, ‘Vintage shops’, ‘Deck chairs’ and ‘Swimwear’: all right out WGSN SwimLife trends.

Brighton, UK

Looks like a ‘Holiday Postcard’ that I could have posted from there. It was quite bright and sunny that day, not to say very vibrant as well.

The ‘Vintage shop – Coastal Collections, Brighton’ selling old toy car models, London toy buses, old cards set,  stamp (anybody interested in philately), old British currency and coins and old World Cup football magazines. It was quite an interesting assortment of items on sale, very collectible and yet very common.

Another interesting coastal graphic signage that could easily made onto the covers of packaging and T-shirt graphics with florals, umbrellas and flip flops added. The vibrant , bold stripes on deck chairs remind me of the WGSN Coastal Life Trends….

Incorporated in Nautical life with stripe tees, sailor jackets and navy pants to top with gold anchor buttons, this trend has trickled across accessories range with anchor pendant chains, bold stripe bags with rope handles and not to forget the flips flops.

Well, I didn’t wanna stay behind the trend and yet wanted to maintain my own individual style  (a cliché statement that all designers use). So, here I am dresses in a ‘Coastal – Pastel’ look!!

White schiffley bustier top with pastel blue shorts from Indian Terrain (India), accessoried (or excessorised!!) with multicolour pastel layered beaded neckpiece and lacy wedges (New Look) and a great functional handbag (Agnes B).  Yes, I do have a good old pair of shades (sunglasses) from ‘FastTrack’!! The only thing missing was a nice, straw hat to beat the heat. So, here I am trying out hats on the Brighton beach!!

Wandering minds!!

I keep thinking what to write on this blog!! I initally started this as a diary entry on my London experiences… “LONDON DIARIES”!! Etched in Indian Ink and ‘Paisley’ being my favourite motif, I decided to translate my diary writings into an online blog!!
